dj whoop series is coming to life

I’ve been working relentlessly to finish this series—something I set out to create right after my first child was born. Our home overflowed with children’s books, and after reading through so many of them I thought, Why not make one myself for my little guy?

So I started brainstorming, opening my heart to fun, wild ideas. Then inspiration struck in the most unexpected way. I was driving on Hilton Head Island when I passed a road called Whooping Crane Drive. Instantly, I pictured this huge, charismatic bird bobbing his head to some heavy bass, wearing headphones and shades. In that moment, DJ Whoop was born—and I knew I had something special.

I had just medically retired from the Army, which gave me plenty of time before returning to life as a student. The first book poured out of me in about a week, and the illustrations took a month. The next two books took another three months to bring to life. Now, the entire trilogy is complete, and I couldn’t be prouder.

I’m currently searching for the right agents to help guide DJ Whoop into the hands of an amazing publishing company. Keep an eye out—because one day soon, you just might spot DJ Whoop on the shelves of your local bookstore!
